Rural Water Supply Project in Gutu District
This project comprised of providing equitable and affordable access to safe drinking water in sufficient quantities to about 185 000 inhabitants as well as strengthening the participation of local communities in improving water and sanitation management. A second objective was to promote cattle breeding for rural development activities.

Projektleistungen
The project comprised the construction of 130 conventional boreholes and 540 shallow wells on the one hand and 100 cattle dips on the other. In addition to these civil works an operation and maintenance programme was established to ensure the proper functioning of the installations and handpumps.
As an accompanying measure local technical personnel were trained in sanitation improvement techniques, the construction of sanitary latrines and in the organisation of such activities by the local population.
