Saale Valley crossing near Bad Kösen
At 1,226 metres long and up to 65 metres high, the crossing near Bad Kösen spans the Saale Valley. Slender, articulated piers integrate the structure into a landscape shaped by limestone cliffs and vineyards.
The bridge crosses a sensitive nature reserve. In the central bridge section, spans of up to 130 metres had to be achieved without placing temporary supports in the valley.
KREBS+KIEFER was responsible for design planning, tendering and structural checking of the detailed design. The central section used balanced cantilever construction, while the northern and southern sections were built by incremental launching. Building-control acceptance inspections for all erection stages and on-site monitoring of the superstructure launching supported delivery.
